Devil's Claw,
found only in the sands of the Kalahari in southern
Africa, has long been known for its medicinal
properties. Each year up to 15 million wild plants
are uprooted, threatening the very existence
of this precious herb.
A.Vogel Devil's Claw is grown on a specially
created farm in the Kalahari. Working with scientists
and local people, Bioforce has achieved a unique and
sustainable organic farming method for a herb
notoriously difficult to cultivate.
Our plants are grown from seed, and Devil's Claw
does not give up its seeds easily. The young
primary tubers are planted in carefully prepared
strips of land using an organic protocol both
to ensure top quality plants and to minimise
the impact on the natural environment.
It takes four years for each plant to mature
and only then do our local workforce harvest
the water-storage tubers by hand. The main tuber
is replanted and left to grow once more to maturity,
ensuring a continuing supply of this amazing
herbal remedy.
