The Rainforest FoundationThe Rainforest Foundation supports indigenous people and traditional populations of the world's rainforests in their efforts to protect their environment and fulfil their rights. One way is by producing maps to gain land rights so that the millions of people who depend on the Congo rainforests for food, medicines and building materials can defend themselves and their forests against industrial logging.We have a small shop on site, used by staff and people from the local area. We offer shoppers paper carrier bags to carry their purchases but as an incentive to carry canvas or other reusable bags we give 10p to the Foundation for every purchase over £2 where a carrier bag is not taken. To date we have raised £250. In 2006 we donated £1000 in lieu of Corporate Christmas Cards, which enabled the Rainforest Foundation to protect 50 acres of forest. This year we are making a similar donation to assist with the mapping project. Further donations of £1000 were made in 2007 and 2008.
