Reduce wrinkles around the eyes naturally

First things first, there is nothing wrong with wrinkles! Especially crow's feet, these little lines we find around our eyes can appear for a number of reasons, one of which is laughing:

Our wrinkles are engraved smiles.”- Jules Renard

Sadly, it is not always easy to be as optimistic about our own imperfections in a world filled with photo-shopped images, but what to try to keep in mind is that our skin is supposed to age over the years - it’s natural.

Once we develop lines they won’t altogether vanish magically but the great news here is that our skin is constantly renewing itself. If we start making healthy lifestyle changes we will begin to see the effects at any stage in our life.

Try out our six natural and easy steps to incorporate into your daily routine. They can help stop the excessive aging of skin and reduce the appearance of your wrinkles.

Our top 6 tips

Here are our top 6 tips on how to combat those bothersome lines under your eyes the all-natural way.

Water

Yes, good old H20 works miracles on our skin.

Most people don’t realise how important hydration is to our skin care. You may have heard that advice before and think it is an easy way for your skin complaints to be brushed off, but trust us it really does work and it is such a simple thing to incorporate into your daily routine.

Now, when we say drink more water this doesn’t mean a glass a day as the best results are seen when you drink at least 1.5 litres (or three pints) of plain, still water.

Tip: Try to avoid fizzy and flavoured water. The reason for this is that our bodies treat carbonated and sweetened fluids differently from still water and won’t fully hydrate you.

Proper hydration also helps our bodies sort out other issues we are facing. If you are experiencing breakouts and going through menopause at this time why not look at Eileen’s blog which gives helpful tips on the power of drinking more water during the change.

Rosehip oil

If conventional remedies are not for you, don’t worry as there are a number of natural plants and herbs which you can use that can help replenish dull and ageing skin. One of our favourite natural remedies for ageing skin is rosehip oil!

Rosehip oil is extremely rich in vitamin C, which as I shall go on to discuss, can help to boost your production of collagen and maintain the integrity of your skin. It also contains plenty of other nourishing nutrients to support ageing skin, such as beta-carotene and essential fatty acids like omega 3 to help keep your skin hydrated and to fight free-radical damage, the biggest cause of premature ageing.

Don’t take my word for it though – science seems to back up the anti-ageing properties of rosehips too, as one study conducted in 2015 found that consuming rosehip powder for just 8 weeks helped to considerably improve ageing-induced fine lines around the eyes!

Sleep

Getting your beauty sleep is essential when preventing deeper wrinkles around the eyes.

Your skin suffers when you do not get enough rest because the skin does all of its repair work at night. If you do not get enough beauty sleep, your skin can’t do its job effectively, in turn making your skin look tired and easily susceptible to wrinkles.

Also, if you are not sleeping well at night and are dehydrated during the day your skin lacks the moisture that it needs to plump during its repair works.

This is why your skin suffers when you are hung over. A big night out of dancing and drinking alcohol will result in your body lacking proper rest and hydration so that when you wake up you have dull, tired skin.

If you are having difficulty with your sleeping check out our sleep health hub which has lots of useful information on how to get a more restful night.

Bowels

Moving our bowel at least once a day is key when maintaining good skin care.

The reason for this is because going to the toilet is the way our body flushes out all of the toxins we ingest. If we cannot do this then our bodies will start to push all of the toxins out through our skin, causing breakouts.

If you are finding it difficult to move your bowels and believe this is a factor affecting your skin, then take a look at our constipation information which discusses various herbal remedies for this problem.

Vitamin C

Getting more vitamin C into your body is a great way to maintain better skin.

Vitamin C is jam packed with antioxidants which do a number of great things for our health. The benefits can also be seen for your skin because the vitamin C helps maintain the integrity of our skin cell membranes. This will help to repair and cement your skin cells making it more difficult for wrinkles to deepen and leaves better looking, healthier skin.

Be wary of taking in too much vitamin C as our bodies can only hold so much of the mineral at one time. If you take over 60mg your body will naturally lose 95% of all of the goodness you have just ingested.

If you are a smoker this will affect your vitamin C levels; the more you smoke the more vitamin C you will lose from your bloodstream. Smoking also damages your natural collagen and depletes your vitamin C levels which results in wrinkles.

Diet

What we eat and drink has a big impact on our skincare.

It is important to incorporate a healthy and balanced diet into your lifestyle. Most of us find this difficult to do due to our fast pace and hectic daily activities. However, this is a reasonably simple thing to do. Here are three quick fixes that won’t eat into your day:

  • Try swapping fizzy, sugary drinks with water
  • Have a fruit breakfast
  • Cut down on junk food. Try packing a lunch before heading off to work so you aren’t tempted to fast food later on in the day.

Tip: You may enjoy drinking a smoothie for breakfast as this is a fast way to get your 5-a-day. Try to eat whole fruits too as the skin around the flesh is filled with anti-oxidant goodness, which is amazing for maintaining beautiful, glowing skin.

Face Gymnastics

We all know we should exercise to help maintain a healthy lifestyle, but when it comes to wrinkles nobody thinks to incorporate face exercises at the gym. Face gymnastics is a fairly new sensation which helps fight the natural wrinkles we create through the faces we make when smiling, frowning, pouting or yawning.

Taking five minutes each day to exercise our face muscles is a new method many people are using to help maintain beautiful skin the natural way.

Tip: To help with crow’s feet, touch the outer corner of your eyebrows with your finger and look up to the ceiling whilst moving your lower lids to form a harsh squint then relax your eyes. Try doing this several times a day.
