General Health Tips
- Your body needs the right nutrients in order to work well. Lack of vitamin C is common, as is a lack of zinc.
- Stress can make you susceptible to infections. You will have realized that when you are tired or under pressure, you fall prey to bugs more easily.
- Alcohol and nicotine use up the nutrients your body needs. A few nights out may make you less resistant to invading viruses.
- Sugar may seem to make our lives sweeter, but if you are living from chocolate bar to chocolate bar throughout the week, your body may struggle to cope with whatever life throws at it.
What to do
- Take vitamin C and zinc particularly over the winter. Vitamin C is only absorbed in small quantities so taking a low dose several times a day is a good way of constantly topping up.
- Don’t stay cooped up indoors – get some fresh air no matter what the weather. Cover up with sunscreen in the heat and warm woollies in the winter. If you live or work in a centrally heated or air-conditioned environment, it is particularly important to get some oxygen into your lungs regularly.
- Get enough rest and relaxation – your body replenishes itself during deep sleep and when you are deeply relaxed, so you have a health enhancing excuse for a few early nights.
- Try a fresh, wholefood diet. Find recipes for healthy bean and vegetable soups and stews, rice dishes with nuts, warming vegetable bakes, and resist the urge to load them with cheese. Make cakes full of dried fruit, nuts and seeds to avoid masses of sugar. Skip the coffee, tea or fizzy drinks and swallow one and a half litres of water.
- Even with all these precautions, a cold or flu virus can strike at any time. All too often, just as you set out on that well-earned break, the virus attacks and you start to feel rotten. Fight the misery with Echinaforce Echinacea drops or tablets, a well-researched licensed herbal remedy.
