Medicinal Plants Face Extinction -
The Vogel Solution.

One of the reasons Vogel started growing his own herbs to make medicines for his patients was that this doesn't affect wild stocks of those plants.

This has become increasingly important in latter years, as the American prairies are denuded of Echinacea, for example,
and the Kalahari Desert is ransacked for Devil's Claw. We grow our own herbs, which not only gives us control over the growing conditions, but also ensures we don't bring any plant nearer to extinction, and we keep the Botanical Gardening people happy.

The Native Americans will never pick the first stand of a herb they are looking for, but will wait until they find the second stand before they pick it. This way they know they are never picking the last of that herb.
