Frequently Asked Questions
Venaforce Horse Chestnut GR (gastro-resistant) tablets

What is Venaforce used for?

Venaforce Horse Chestnut GR (gastro-resistant) tablets is a traditional herbal medicinal product for the relief of symptoms of varicose veins, exclusively based on long-standing use as a traditional remedy.

These symptoms include:
  • Tired heavy legs
  • Aching painful legs
  • Leg cramps
  • Swollen ankles
Always read the leaflet

What is the difference between Aesculus Forte tablets and Venaforce tablets?
Nothing: they are the same thing. Venaforce is the name of the licensed product.

Why are they called GR tablets?
GR stands for Gastro-Resistant. It means that the tablet is specially coated and therefore won’t break down in the stomach (where it could potentially be irritating due to its constituents) but in the small intestine where it won’t have an irritating effect. Aesculus Forte tablets were similarly coated.

What is the dosage?
Adults and the elderly: 1 tablet twice daily taken immediately after food.
Tablets should be swallowed whole.
Not for use in children or those under 18.

Why does it say that Venaforce should work within 2 weeks?
This statement is there to guard against the possibility of the consumer continuing to use the product when it might not be suitable for them and also as a safeguard in case the condition worsens and requires medical attention.

Why is Venaforce contraindicated for those under 18?
Anyone under 18 suffering from varicose veins needs to be treated by a health care professional – it’s not a case for self-medication. Varicose veins develop over many years, or as the result of pregnancy, so they shouldn’t be present in youth.

Why should people who are allergic to peanuts avoid Venaforce when it doesn’t contain peanuts?
Venaforce contains soya oil, and there is a possible connection between soya allergy and peanut allergy, in that people who react to one are likely to react to the other (they are both legumes with a reputation for causing allergic reactions). As peanut allergies can be life threatening, it’s always best to be safe.

Is Venaforce contraindicated with anticoagulants and blood-thinning medication?
A.Vogel Venaforce can be taken with anticoagulants and blood-thinning medication as it DOES NOT contain the coumarins that constitute a problem with such medication.

What does 'based on long-standing use as a traditional remedy' mean?
Many herbs have been used for a long period of years to relieve certain conditions. This 'traditional use' can now be reflected on the packaging of products that have achieved registration under the Traditional Herbal Medicines Directive. Each claim derives from the documented long term medicinal use of the herb as shown in respected reference sources such as pharmacopoeias, publications by experts in herbal medicine, and EU member state approved lists of herbs and their uses, rather than being based on the results of clinical trials.
