Budget friendly tips, whilst eating healthy

@emmatalksnutrition

Feed a family of 4 for £5, from a nutritionist ✨ You spoke, I listened. Do you want to feed a family of 4 + leftovers, for £5 whilst keeping it simple, and healthy? I thought so! ? I want to do more content on budgeting, so here’s an example meal, and I’ll run you through some of the reasons this works for health – and for your wallet. Here I’m showcasing my One-pot Bolognese Orzotto ????? We are reusing ingredients throughout the week, ok, no waste, so the cost is for these full x4 servings, but nothing will be wasted by the end of my week, you can use the rest of those leftover ingredients in other meals, and eventually, you might not even need to buy every ingredient, every time. Big on veg, variety, & colour, smaller portions of meat. Following the Mediterranean style diet patterns - but if & when we do pick meat, don't be scared of cheaper cuts. Fats aren't all bad, by any means, especially not those coming from wholefoods - they help us absorb key nutrients from those lovely veggies and keep us fuller for longer ? Make your own where possible – don’t pay for processing, keep it simple, using fresh ingredients consistently throughout the week ? Plan your meals, bulk cook, save those leftovers and more on checking your spend on ingredients on your food shop to come ?✨ Comment “Orzotto” if you’d like a link to this recipe with exact quantities and method! ?

Is organization key for healthy eating, and your wallet?

Shop once at the start of the week and plan ingredients for a week full of cooking, (I plan out dinners fully and then work breakfasts and lunches into this using leftovers and staples), this way, you’re able to reuse fresh ingredients throughout the week, and sometimes even longer. Plus, planning helps you pick only the ingredients you want to include (don’t shop on impulse or when you’re hungry either).

Change habits when shopping & reducing waste

Try out buying certain things in bulk and get in the habit of checking the cost per kilo to get the best deal – nothing will go to waste! Use up, store or even freeze from fresh. Become confident understanding best before & use by dates, use your senses – smell, eyes, rather than being governed by strict dates – most things can safely last beyond the dates printed.

Cook from fresh, and save all leftovers – they can go to good use!

Batch cook, create meals from leftover ingredients, and also save leftover portions. Then, for kids, if snacks are being demanded – try a snack plate – it helps add some variety to their diet, but sneakily uses up what you want used!

Save this information for some weekly savings reminders. Are there any others you can add to the list?
