How to do electrolytes right – Don’t MISS an important one ✅ In an industry fill of people banging on about electrolytes – what’s the one that keeps getting missed? Potassium K+ Guys, what I love about nutrition is you’re always learning. As nutritionists we obviously have the basic fundamentals of what’s helpful and what’s not, but we’re constantly learning from the research and client experience on what actually works, and what makes a difference ?? Magnesium is all the hype, (which is absolutely warranted by the way), it’s wonderful and one I always recommend people try taking more of – at least 200mg, but one nutrient that is often forgotten about is potassium, and I saw this post from a really experienced practitioner, and I just thought, do you know what, even I need to prioritise this more I’m not sure about you, but I feel like this ticks all my boxes, even if you’re eating well, lifestyle circumstances like stress can throw your electrolytes off, as can salt (Sodium and Potassium are direct competitors) – savoury cravings, anyone? So, sometimes we just need to ensure we’re putting in a little extra, alongside eating well So, I’ve been using this electrolyte mix - Balance Mineral Drink. I pour it into my go-to breakfast which I’ve shared on here before, it mixes in lovely, and yeah, I’m going to be trying it for a few weeks consistently, and see if I notice any differences and will report back And this can often be the ‘simplest’ way to test if you really ‘need’ something – no expensive tests required, just try it for yourself and see how you feel, simple ?x

How to do electrolytes right – Don’t MISS an important one ✅

Why are electrolytes important?

In an industry fill of people banging on about electrolytes, they must have some importance? Absolutely, we use up electrolytes daily, as we move, sweat, process - and arguably our intake is more at risk as the natural levels in our soil deplete year after year and aren't properly replaced, plus, our busy, modern lives, including a constatn barrage of toxins and stress, risk depleting our levels further. So, we should be thinking about putting a little extra in which many companies have jumped on with the latest, 'must-have' product. But, for me as a nutritionist, what’s an important electrolyte that seems to keep getting missed across many of the products now lining our shelves? Potassium!

Why, Potassium?

Guys, what I love about nutrition is you’re always learning. As nutritionists we obviously have the basic fundamentals of what’s helpful and what’s not, but we’re constantly learning from the research and client experience on what actually works, and what makes a difference.

Magnesium is all the hype, (which is absolutely warranted by the way), it’s wonderful and one I always recommend people try taking more of – at least 200mg, but one nutrient that is often forgotten about is potassium, and I saw this post from a really experienced practitioner, please see above, and I just thought, do you know what? Even I need to prioritise this nutrient more, I think.

I’m not sure about you, but I feel like some of these 'low potassium signs' ticks all of my boxes, plus some of the risk factors! So, even if we’re eating well, lifestyle circumstances like stress can throw your electrolytes off, as can salt (Sodium and Potassium are direct competitors) – savoury cravings, anyone? So, sometimes we just need to ensure we’re putting in a little extra, alongside eating well.

So, I’ve been using this electrolyte mix - Balance Mineral Drink. I pour it into my go-to breakfast (protein-packed cinnamon granola), it mixes in lovely, and yes, I’m going to be trying it for a few weeks consistently, and see if I notice any differences, and I will report back.

And just a gentle reminder from me - that this can often be the ‘simplest’ way to test if you really ‘need’ something – no expensive tests required, just try it for yourself and see how you feel, simple and no need to overthink it. From Emma x
