My night-time routine ??♀️?✨ |As a holistic nutritionist
Why is an evening of unwind so important?
A relaxing evening incorporating some self-care doesn’t happen every night of life, but I try to make it happen as much as possible. Plus, as a nutritionist I’ve come to realise, it’s not all about the food. I have a background in physiology and keep coming back to, how everything ties in as one – we need our digestion to be working well to make use of the food and nutrients we take in, but crucially, we need stress to be in check for our digestion to be able to work.
But sleep often isn’t enough ‘chill-time’ for the body to keep the balances in check, where possible we also want to have some moments of calm during our waking hours – and the evening can often be a nice time to set this in place.
I’m not huge on extensive skincare routines, really, but I’ve been trialling out some products more routinely over the past few years, and even the process of taking some me-time to apply these can be a huge win at the end of a long day ?
What is my idea of a successful evening?
-
Have an early dinner with the kids around 5pm
- Get any exercise out the way so my body can relax 7-8pm is the very latest I'll go because it is a set class
- Try and get organised for the next day in order to feel organised, limit stress, and less panic at the time
- Get the kids down to bed at a reasonable time - good for them and important I get me-time in the evening
- Incorporate some elf-care practises including having a warm bath, reading, music, warm herbal teas, or all of the above
- Skin and hair care - I don't go crazy but a few good quality products and the action of massaging these into your hair and skin (I've been trying to practice lymphatic drainage techniques too), can have added benefits - both physically and mentally
