After having an ultra sound test my husband has been told his prostate is enlarged. He is to see the doctor for blood test and a rectal exam. Does this mean it may be cancerous? He has no symptoms relating to prostate problems.

The prostate can be a very puzzling organ, as its size does not necessarily reflect the amount of bother it causes.

So for example a small prostate can be very inflamed internally and cause a lot of symptoms, and an enlarged prostate can be trouble-free because the internal part is not pressing on the urethra.

There is no way of knowing if it is cancerous or not without the doctor’s tests, but if your husband is symptom-free then the outlook is positive.
