Why is a tickly cough always worse when you go to bed? Also is Solpadeine any good for suppressing the cough? It is driving me mad. I got this after getting the flu injection on 2/10/14.

There are a number of reasons why a tickly cough can be worse in bed.

Perhaps the most common reason is that your cough is caused by something called a ‘post-nasal drip’. Basicallly, this denotes the presence of inflammation in a particular part of your nasal passages lying above your throat and the mucus that is produced drips down, causing irritating and cough. For some people, this can be worse when lying down.

Solpadeine contains a form of codeine which is a cough suppressant, so can indeed suppress a cough. This chemical is a relative of morphine which is found in the opium plant and is an example of how plants can produce powerful medicines for the body. Today, herbalists do not tend recommend other herbs such as Marshmallow and Mullein for a tickly cough.

Flu vaccinations can give indeed lead to a wide variety of unwanted effects and the feeling of flu-like symptoms, including cough, are included in this.
