This is common on the approach to the menopause. Although your hormone levels are changing, there is still a monthly cycle, just not high enough to trigger a bleed, but still high enough to give PMT-like symptoms.
However, if the pain continues or gets worse it is best to get it checked out by your doctor as well. They can also test your hormone levels, and that will give you a better idea of what is happening.
