Although prolonged and/or heavy bleeding is common at the start of the menopause, it is not good for you and can eventually cause anaemia.
This in turn can cause fatigue, low mood, and sleep problems, so it is best to check with your doctor. They may also be able to test your hormone levels and that will give you a better idea of what is happening.
Some doctors do just say that it is just the menopause, but don't be fobbed off and make sure that they offer some form of support and treatment for you!
In the meantime you may find a gentle iron tonic helpful and an over the counter medication called Tranexamic Acid (or another similar) used to help stop heavy bleeding as a short term fix.
