Changing periods are often one of the first signs that you are approaching the menopause, and you are in the average age range of 45-55, so it is possible.
Periods at this point can vary between heavy and light, on time, late, early, missing, long or short! However, although heavy bleeding is common, it is not good for you and can eventually cause anaemia, which in turn can cause fatigue, low mood, and sleep problems.
If this scenario continues, it is best to check with your doctor. They may also be able to test your hormone levels and that will give you a better idea of what is happening.
