This often happens - a phase of light periods on a long cycle is interspersed with a phase of heavy periods on a short cycle.
Your doctor can give you a progesterone-based medication to stop the heavy bleeds, or you can try Agnus castus (a herbal remedy which isn't as strong as the doctor's medication).
It's unlikely that you would need an ablation (scrape) - this is just your hormones having a wobble, prior to calming down again.
