I am 46 years old and I take 2mg of Climival, although I want to change to a transdermal. I am also on HRT after having a total hysterectomy in 2012. I have always had bad headaches leading up to my periods, but this last fortnight I have been in a lot of pain, and I have also been feeling quite sick. My GP gave me antibiotics a week ago, but I'm still having the headaches. I've been on Omperazole for my stomach problems, and I take Domperidone for nausea. Please can you give me an idea about what could be causing these symptoms?

Some people find that the type if HRT they are on can cause headaches so it may be an idea to ask your doctor to see if you could try another kind.

Also, Omeprazole, whilst suppressing stomach acid, also reduces the absorption of calcium and magnesium. This, over time, can lead to stress headaches, muscle fatigue, low mood etc. If you have been on this for more than a year this may be a contributory factor.

Magnesium is vital for many functions in the body, and low levels can cause frequent headaches in some people.

You may find taking a liquid magnesium, or a magnesium skin spray helps. It is not worth trying magnesium tablets as absorption will be blocked by the Omeprazole.
