My Perimenopause Tips for You

Okay, let's talk about perimenopause tips. I'm 55, so I have 10 years of perimenopause behind me. There are five tips I wish I had known at the start of my perimenopause, and they are:

Avoid the fear factor, allow for change, keep moving, prioritise rest, and stay hydrated.

So, let's take a closer look at each of these tips:

1. Avoid fear factor

Now, I don't think any of us can avoid freaking out about getting older because between 40s and 50s there are natural body changes to get used to and it's normal to grieve a bit for your lost youth. I've tried to avoid age panic. So, I focus on reality rather than on my phone.

I'm thinking, let the 20-year-olds have their youthful beauty, without envying them. Because being young has its anxieties and stresses. Would any of us really want to go back? I love my age. I like my wisdom.

2. Allow for change

I've enjoyed finding ways to adapt my diet and lifestyle. I've changed up my style. I've already decided on the look I want in my 60s, and I'm looking forward, not back.

3. Keep moving

Moving is important. Inactivity is the devil. It's so easy to stop moving in perimenopause because it's such a busy time of life, and hormonal instability can make you so tired.

Little small habits, such as a 10-minute walk after dinner, are a good way to introduce gentle exercise into your day-to-day life. If you can combine socialising and exercise, like a dance class with a friend. Genius!

4. Prioritise rest

Don't fight your body's need for rest. It's going to make you stronger. It's going to make you more resilient.

I learned the hard way that going to bed on time was better than sitting on the sofa with a glass of wine.

5. Stay hydrated

Also, don't dry out. There are huge benefits to good oils like flax and chia, and oily fish, like salmon and tuna. They'll really lubricate the body.

Drinking plenty of water each day is going to help with your energy. It's going to help with concentration. And it will help your skin look better as well.
