A missed period could be the sign that you’re pregnant. However, if this isn’t the case, irregular or missed periods could be caused by a number of other factors.
A hormonal imbalance, or breastfeeding can cause periods to become irregular, other causes include: the start of the menopause, stress on the body (either psychological or physical), excess or a loss of body weight, certain medications (hormonal or otherwise), conditions affecting the womb such as PCOS, or even those indirectly affecting the womb, such as thyroid disorders.
If your periods have stopped for no apparent reason you should make an appointment with your doctor to try and determine what might be going on.
