Endometriosis is a condition which can cause severe pain and troublesome periods. It occurs when tissue from the lining of the womb grows outside of the uterus. This can affect the ovaries, the fallopian tubes, the pelvic wall and, in extreme cases, it can interfere with the surrounding bowels or bladder.
If you suffer from endometriosis, you are more likely to experience painful periods, including common pelvic period pains but also pain elsewhere where there might be endometrial tissues. Endometriosis can also give rise to heavy, painful or irregular periods.
If you have a family history of endometriosis, you are more likely to have the condition yourself. You can read more about endometriosis and other period conditions on our blog.
