I have suffered moderate depression treated with venafaxine for 10 years. Since becoming menopausal in February, confirmed with blood tests, my depression has become severe. My GP doesn't think HRT will help, as I'm already on antidepressants. Can you advise me if this is correct?

Unfortunately, the menopause can make depression worse for some women, this is usually due to falling oestrogen levels.

Unfortunately, some forms of HRT may cause depression as a side effect so maybe this is why the doctor is reluctant to prescribe it.

Best thing to do is see your doctor again and ask them to look into this further for you as there must be other options that you could try.
