Yes, it can be very confusing as to what to take. I would suggest making a list of your symptoms and then check which herbs or supplements are known to help. For instance, if you have only flushes or sweats then sage is often a good one to start with. If you get flushes but also, say, low mood and loss of libido then soy isoflavones may be better.
