Most women find that these heavy periods can occur as you approach the menopause but then tail off. However, prolonged or frequent periods can cause anaemia so it may be an idea to ask your doctor for an iron test. Anaemia can cause fatigue, low mood and sleep problems. It will not rectify itself of its own accord – you will need to take an iron tonic, and I’d suggest a natural one such as Floradix or Feroglobin, rather than one from the doctor (as these can cause digestive discomfort).
