The reason I suggest this is because we are not allowed to offer diagnoses I'm afraid. It sounds like a form of tendonitis or bursitis, given the symptoms you describe and short of a confirmed diagnosis, I recommend you apply the good old bag of frozen peas to the knee for 10 minutes each evening and apply some Atrogel® before bed and twice more in the day.
The other recommendation is easier said than done - rest the knee as best you can!
