Two years really is a long time to be suffering pain. If you experienced an injury to the neck, such as whiplash, I'd definitely recommend you to a Chiropractor or Physiotherapist. Chiropractors manipulate the joints, physiotherapists release the muscles in the area. Either will address tissue damage and any other physical imbalance that might explain why your pain is persistent.
Your Doctor might well offer an MRI scan for a good look at any deeper tissue injury.
If you have a job where you are reaching up high or nodding your head up and down, such as being at a computer all day, I'd wonder if a combination of the mineral magnesium (found in leafy plants, whole grains and supplements - just avoid poorly absorbed magnesium 'oxide' pills) and some Atrogel® externally might be very helpful.
If the discomfort is affecting your sleep, using a remedy such as Dormeasan®: can help and has been known to numb the pain somewhat too, as one of the ingredients calms the nervous system that is firing off all those pain signals.
