There is some research, as well as anecdotal evidence, to suggest that exercise can help anxiety. Basically, exercise helps to produce chemicals called endorphins. These have a positive effect on mood and stress levels which, in turn, can help calm anxiety.
It is important to bear in mind, however, that the effect of exercise on anxiety will probably vary from person to person, and will certainly depend on how severe your anxiety is in the first place.
Still, I would definitely recommend trying to exercise a little more to see if you feel the benefits. Exercising outdoors can be particularly calming so, if you can, try to do activities like walking, cycling or jogging that will take you out in the fresh air.
