Many of us are in the habit of checking our phones every spare moment we get, so I would try to find something else you can do instead of this. Could you make a short 'to do' list, for example, or read a chapter of your book? It may be hard to get out of the habit of checking your phone but, once you do, it will begin to feel normal.
In the long term, finding hobbies and activities that stop you looking at your phone will be beneficial. This could be anything – knitting, painting, volleyball, running – whatever you find interesting!
