background

I am 50 and my period stopped about 4-5 years ago, but about 3 years ago I started feeling hot and cold, feverish, weak, hot at night and body pains, as if I had just came back from tropical country. Tests were done but nothing was found. Then I was tested for the menopause and it was deduced it could be the cause. Since then I keep getting these symptoms at least twice a year for two weeks or so, and I have to be off work. Is that how it is, and how long will it go on for?

You won’t get the menopause the minute you turn 50! The average starting age is actually between 45 and 55 and it can often depend on a number of factors including hereditary, weight and health, however every single woman will have an individual menopause.
