Changing periods are often one of the first signs that you are approaching the menopause so it is possible.
Periods at this point can vary between heavy and light, on time, late, early, missing, long, or short! Some women find that they spot, either between periods or instead of a period.
However, heavy periods can cause anaemia so it may be an idea to ask your doctor to test your iron levels as low iron can cause fatigue, low mood, poor sleep, hot flushes etc.
