During the menopause the nervous system is stressed by the hormonal and other physical changes going on and this can result in it going a bit haywire during the night, so this is very common.

You may find taking a magnesium supplement with your evening meal helpful. Check your diet too, even an afternoon cup of coffee can affect the nerves and trigger this so try to avoid caffeine drinks, fizzy/sugary juices, high salt and sugar foods, dehydration can also be a contributory factor so make sure you are drinking plenty of plain water every day. Taking a nerve tonic such as AvenaCalm may be worth trying as well. However, if this gets worse it is best to check with your doctor as well.
