The menopause usually starts from about 45 years onwards.
Fibroids are often caused by high oestrogen levels and the thought is that when your oestrogen levels fall during the menopause, that could shrink the fibroids thus saving you a major operation.
However, if the fibroids are causing a lot of pain or bleeding then it is important to discuss your options with your doctor.
