Could This Everyday Habit Be Sabotaging Your Gut?
I’m constantly reminding people that it’s not just what you eat that matters—it’s how you eat. Slowing down, staying calm, and chewing intentionally can make a huge difference to your digestion. But here’s something many people overlook…
This concept doesn’t stop at food. It applies to how you drink your water, too ?
It’s Not Just Hydration—It’s How You Hydrate
We all know staying hydrated is important, but the way you consume water can impact your digestive system more than you might think.
Instead of gulping down large amounts at once, aim to sip your water slowly throughout the day. This supports better absorption and is gentler on your system.
Should You Drink Water With Meals?
Another simple shift: try to separate your water intake from your meals.
Drinking large amounts of water while eating may dilute your stomach acid, which plays a key role in breaking down food. When digestion is compromised, it can lead to symptoms like bloating or discomfort.
Spacing out your water and meals—even by 15-20 minutes—can help your body do its job more efficiently.
Warm vs. Cold Water: Does Temperature Matter?
Here’s a habit I’ve been experimenting with more recently: choosing warm water over ice-cold drinks ?
From a traditional perspective (especially in practices like Traditional Chinese Medicine), consuming excessive cold foods and drinks may weaken what’s often referred to as your “digestive fire.”
The idea is simple:
Your body has to work harder to warm cold water before it can properly use it. Over time, this extra effort may contribute to:
- Sluggish digestion
- Bloating
- Fatigue
Warm water, on the other hand, is thought to support smoother digestion with less strain on the body.
A Small Habit, A Potential Big Impact
I’ve started incorporating more warm water into my routine to see if I notice a difference—and I’m curious to see how it plays out over time.
Sometimes, it’s these small, everyday habits that have the biggest impact on how we feel.
So, what about you?
Would you consider switching to sipping warm water and spacing it away from meals?
