Hello Virginia. It is very difficult to make a definite diagnosis of the cause of your symptoms without seeing you in person. It is good that you have been to the ER department in order to exclude the most obvious or urgent conditions for your problem. Other causes of a persisting sore throat will include acid reflux and post-nasal drip. The best advice I can give you at this point is to get a referral to an ENT specialist and hopefully, you will get a clearer idea as to why you are troubled with these symptoms.

Hello. My wife has had a sore throat which shows all the symptoms of Tonsilitus for just over two weeks. Fatigue, Sore throat, constant coughing (especially in the morning and more so at night time) white "Bits" at the back of her throat, Flu like symptoms. She naturally has a very low immune system and is an asthmatic together with sever allergies to most antibiotics (cefuroxime is the only one she is able to take). She doesn't smoke or drink and in general is quite hygienic. Are there any natural remedies which can help? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello Zishan. Yes, Echinacea may help - it has immune system as well as anti-infective properties. We would combine with the Sage as in the A.Vogel sore throat spray. However, there are o guarantees that we can completely avoid the use of antibiotics or that surgery may eventually be necessary. Nevertheless, I hope that this is of some help to both you and your wife.

Hello Nicholas. An unexplained sore throat or throat irritation which persists warrants further investigation and you should make an appointment to see your doctor to rule out a serious health condition. This is especially so if you are an older person, a smoker or have smoked in the past. So, the best advice I can give you at this point is to make an appointment to see your doctor.
