I had a heavy period about two weeks ago, but prior to that I hadn't had a period for two months. Today I've started bleeding again. Is this the start of the menopause?

Changing periods are often one of the first signs that you are approaching the menopause, and you are in the average age range of 45-55, so it is possible.

Periods at this point can vary between heavy and light, on time, late, early, missing, long, or short!

However, although getting periods close together is common, it is not good for you and can eventually cause anaemia which, in turn can cause fatigue, low mood, and sleep problems so it is best to check with your doctor.

They may also be able to test your hormone levels and that will give you a better idea of what is happening.
