background

I started having irregular periods three years ago, and I started getting hot flushes last year. I now have not had a period for 12 months and the hot flushes come and go, but they are severe when I get them. My whole body aches and I find it hard to walk sometimes because of pain in my feet and ankles. I struggle and moan out loud if I have to get up from sitting as it's painful. I have put on a stone in weight and hardly eat as I am conscious of this. My questions are: What can I do to feel better? What can I take to combat of all this? I did take HRT about a year ago but it totally changed my personality and I'd rather not go through that again. I am only in my forties but I feel like an old woman.

You won’t get the menopause the minute you turn 50! The average starting age is actually between 45 and 55 and it can often depend on a number of factors including hereditary, weight and health, however every single woman will have an individual menopause.
