Many things can affect the intensity of a hot flush such as foods/drinks you have just eaten i.e. sugar rich foods and coffee, how tired you are, whether you are upset/hungry/dehydrated, if you have just exercised etc.
Very often night sweats can be worse than hot flushes during the day firstly because you are in bed rather than being up and active you would notice them more but also your nervous system is very often 'wired' by the time you get to bed and this can trigger the sweats even when you are asleep.
